A rod shall come forth from the root of Jesse, and a flower shall arise from his root. Isaiah 11:1

I am the flower of the fields, the lily of the valley.
Jesus, himself, is the Flower of Christmas. The old holy cards depict this metaphorically through the lily and the rose, the flowers symbolic of His human nature received from Mary. As this image is grafted into our imagination, as Christ begins to take root, blossom and bear fruit within our soul, we join the angels in songs of gratitude and praise. As we have been showered with blessing, so we return to bless the Source of all goodness. Always, it seems, adoration includes the laying down of our gifts at the crib of the Savior.
